Last call for MODRON open mic slots đźŚż

If you’ve been thinking about sharing your work at an open mic, this is your moment.

Join us on Tuesday, April 14th at The Lumen for an evening of poetry and prose with MODRON, bringing together writers, readers, and our wider ecological community.

We have a few open mic slots left, and we warmly encourage members of the MODRON community (past contributors or new voices alike) to share their work, especially pieces engaging with eecological, ethical or anti-war themes. If you’d like to read, now is the time to get in touch.

We’re especially delighted that the evening will be presented by Taz Rahman: poet, editor at MODRON, and member of the Poetry Wales governing subcommittee. His debut collection, East of the Sun, West of the Moon, was longlisted for the Laurel Prize, and his YouTube channel Just Another Poet has invited a wide range of UK poets to be interviewed from established names to emerging writers, including Troy Cabida, Ruth Padel, and Gwyneth Lewis.

On the night, we’ll hear from three wonderful featured readers:

  • Cath Drake — a PBS Poetry Choice poet whose work has been longlisted for the Laurel Prize, and founder of The Verandah, a widely respected programme of online poetry workshops, masterclasses, and readings.
  • Rachael Li Ming Chong — a London-based poet of Chinese Malaysian heritage, winner of the Poetry Archive’s WordView 2021 and commended in the Verve Poetry Festival Competition, with work appearing in anthologies and platforms including the Royal Society of Literature.
  • L. Kiew — a Chinese Malaysian poet based in London, author of The Unquiet (Offord Road Books, 2019), a National Poetry Competition longlistee and London Library Emerging Writer whose work has appeared widely in journals including Magma, The Rialto, and Wasafiri.

Together, they bring distinct and compelling voices to what promises to be a rich and engaging programme.

This is your final reminder: the evening isn’t just about listening. Open mic moments are often the heart of the night: intimate, surprising, and full of connection. If you’d like to read, please email: modronmagazine@gmail.com or you can also see Taz on the night to see if there are any spots left.
