All of Us
Neath-born C J Wagstaff is a queer poet, musician, essayist and literary critic who is interested in exploring interpersonal connections to Welsh landscapes with a particular focus on marginalised bodies in landscapes and ecosystems. His poems and non-fiction writings have been published in Poetry Wales, Nation Cymru and a number of magazines. Currently, he is working on of creative writing PhD at Swansea focusing on freshwater ecosystems around South Wales.
Filmed along the river Ely in Cardiff, C J Wagstaff’s poem ‘All of Us’ tells the 2011 story of the river Neath turning bright orange due to iron oxide seepage from a disused nearby mine. The event left a deep impression on a then fifteen year old Wagstaff making him wonder about human impacts on natural spaces and the passive consequences of anthropocentrism.
