Self-Portrait as a Branch on the River Lleidi, Part. 2
Llanelli- born Joshua Jones is a neurodivergent, queer writer, poet and artist who was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas and Polari prizes for his short story collection Local Fires published by Parthian Books in 2023. Stories and characters alongside the political and environmental landscapes inspired by his hometown, feature strongly throughout his writing practice.
Filmed in Llanelli along the banks of the river Lleidi, Joshua Jones’ poem ‘Self-Portrait as a Branch on the River Lleidi, Part. 2’ is the continuation and a response to an earlier poem first published in Poetry Wales. In this poem, Jones reflects on how he feels about the present-day Llanelli having now moved away to the capital of Wales, Cardiff, and the river in its various stages passing through the town is an embodiment of the changes in the poet’s own life-journey.
